Upper Wickham Lane/Okehampton Crescent - Statement of progress of works

As you may be aware, construction works to the roundabout was suspended following a routine inspection by Council engineers, which identified faults with the design consultant’s layout that needed to be rectified. An investigation into the design faults was undertaken and a revised design ordered to enable the contractor to complete the scheme. The revised design took longer than anticipated, as it required the design of a retaining wall to ensure that the new works would fit into the cramped space available because of underground services and equipment in the area.

The revise design was received and approved by the Council on the 7th October, and the Contractor re-started work on the 11th October. The outstanding works are expected to be completed within seven weeks, although due to the nature of the works involved, this is heavily dependent on the weather. The Council’s Implementation Team have been working closely with the contractor to ensure the work is carried out quickly, but also safely, and the level of workmen and weekend working has been agreed to achieve this.

To complete these works, the temporary traffic signals will need to remain in operation, and the Council can only apologise if you have been inconvenienced by them.
