29 July - Road to nowhere blocked
I
was persuaded to attend tonight’s General Purposes Committee meeting but was
then reminded that I had agreed to go with friends to the Oval for today’s
Hundred Cricket match. To be honest I would rather go to the GP meeting than sit
in the sun for hours while a demented loon on the Tannoy implores the crowd to
Make More Noise as if the fireworks and third rate singer are not loud enough
already. But the tickets are paid for. I will be taking my ear defenders.
I am going to miss the excitement of a stopping up order on
the turning circle at the end of Powerscroft Road. It
skirts the southern border of the Coca Cola factory and is of little use since
the bottling plant was extended over the pasture the road once served, Closing
its eastern extremity will allow the Council owned traveller site to its south to be provided with more amenity buildings.

I will also miss hearing how a sub-Committee is to be created to ensure that
the Council is properly prepared for emergencies under the Civil Contingencies
Act 2004 and how long term borrowing fell from £230 million in 2025
to £224·5 million four months ago and that Bexley paid £7·791 million in interest
There has been another Peer Review by the Local Government Association. Last
time that happened Bexley Council lied about being given a good report which
actually said things like “unable to identify positive
outcomes”, “achieving nothing”, “unacceptable behaviour”, “very negative
perceptions” and “swift action required”.
Fortunately, this time, things were very much better.
